style fashion blogger aesthetic film inspiration audrey hepburn

I'm no cinephile; I enjoy watching films like the average viewer. When it comes to films, storyline and substance matter the most to me, even over the aesthetics and cinematography. However, I'm always receptive of fashion and beauty inspiration wherever and whenever I can find it, especially in film as it offers an animated setting where one can see fashion and makeup in motion and in the context of an enthralling storyline. Nothing beats class and style of mid-20th century films where being best dressed was just as important as being best actress. Here's a compilation of Hollywood glamour, particularly in terms of winter fashion that we can all benefit from for inspiration this holiday season. Scroll below for the looks and links to shop similar pieces (affiliate links).

Gene Tierney in 'Leave Her to Heaven'

Leave it to Gene to show that a woman can simultaneously look feminine and powerful. Wearing red lipstick and gold necklaces as accessories, donning shoulder pads, and wrapping up in large, albeit structured coats styled with a (preferably faux) stole, Gene has shown us how to pull off winter wear without compromising looking luxurious and chic.

Vivien Leigh in 'Gone With the Wind'

Much like the former, the character of Scarlett O'Hara exudes class and sophistication, yet here there's also a sense of youthfulness and a 'cutesy' demeanour. Alongside her Snow White looks (i.e. red-toned blush and ruby red lips) Leigh's character showcases black coats with high collars, pastel tones for leisurewear, along with a rich burgundy evening dress inspiring for the holiday season.

Audrey Hepburn in 'Charade'

More classic than excessive, Audrey's character showcases more of those timeless winter staples, yet never boring. 'Charade' is the perfect film for gathering your coat inspiration, from red to yellow to navy, and of course the classic tan trench. Coupling the coats with stylish gloves and hats, her character proves that you can stay warm without sacrificing style.

Catherine Deneuve in 'Belle de jour' & 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg'

The epitome of '60s kitten style, Deneuve's character shows us ribbons in hair; pearl earrings; collar dresses; pastel tones (for clothes and makeup); and pretty fur details (again, preferably faux!). Personally, I'm all over the '60s look and so I highly appreciate how we can see that style be incorporated in the wintertime.

I'm not sure about where you are, but here in Canada, it might as well be winter given the view outside my window as I type this: a white winter wonderland. We are in mid-November anyway, so I thought it would be appropriate to compile my seasonal compilation of fashion trends. Not much has changed since my last autumn list as the trends last season have pretty much transcended into winter: lots of neutral tones (camel, beige, white, black, etc.) along with some classic patterns such as herringbone and cheetah print; the usual chunky knit still prevails, along with cardigan sweaters and more straight or flare jeans; for shoes, I am noticing that androgynous shoes are becoming popular  again like chunky boots reminiscent of Doc Martens as well as classic Mary-Jane loafers. Finding the perfect dress for events often proves to be difficult given the many factors to consider: cost, style, colour, fit, etc. Finding the perfect dress is personally the best part of attending a special occasion, but when time is running out or it begins to get frustrating when you cannot find your perfect dress, it can spoil the experience. So, when I was approached by MillyBridal and checked out their online store containing their wide variety of prom and evening dresses as well as cheap bridesmaid dresses and long bridesmaid dresses, I knew that I had to share with you this beautiful and diverse shop that can help you in finding your dress that suits your personal style. Below, I've featured four different dresses that are personally my favourites to provide a glimpse of what they have to offer.

Classic.
A classic strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline is always a foolproof style that suits almost any event. Plus, the white colour imparts an ethereal and angelic feel, making the overall look very pretty and feminine. While the dress is classic and simple, it simultaneously incorporates fine details such as a cluster of appliques wrapped around the bodice as well as the beautiful chiffon fabric that drapes to the floor. This dress is even available in a variety of colours which enables you to get the one that perfectly suits your preference and need! (Check out this dress here.)

Elegant.
This dress is breathtaking. It combines elements of sophistication and elegance due to the square neckline and form-fitting silhouette, yet also injects a modern twist due to the metallic wrap around the waist that drapes down. Plus, the slit makes the dress impart a more fun and less mature style, making it appropriate for a wider age range. The dress also comes in a variety of colours, however, my personal favourite is this champagne shade as it gives the dress an almost regal flair. (Check out this dress here.)

Girly.
For a more dramatic look, a ballgown dress suits the need perfectly while still maintaining that timeless style. In particular, this tulle off-the-shoulder dress mimics a princess dress due to the baby pink shade, the subtle gems on the neckline, and the voluminous trailing skirt. It's sweet, feminine, and perfect for whatever event that deserves such a dress. (Check out this dress here.)

Alluring.
Finally, I absolutely adore this maroon-toned, off-the-shoulder dress. It's definitely sophisticated, but by no means boring or too mature. The flattering shape of almost emulates the shape of a tulip while the slit breaks up the otherwise simple style by adding some extra interest into the look. It's very reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour which again, makes the dress very classic, timeless, and universal of age or even occasion. (Check out this dress here.)

These were just a few of many dresses among the vast selection that Milly Bridal offers. Check out their online shop millybridal.org! Which of these dresses is your favourite?

.
Autumn is just around the corner. It truly is my favourite season - the nature, the coziness of it all, the fashion, the makeup... it's where I belong, it's when I am truly in my element. However, not every autumn aesthetic is the same each year as it depends on the trends as well as personal preference. Last autumn for me was defined by my discovery of the "dark academia" or simply "academia" aesthetic. Basically, it's the style that evokes the image of that "preppy student in a classic Oxford university" sort of look. It's classic, chic, mature, yet still fun as it's different from the typical style you often see in your day to day.

Drawing inspiration from the runway including Celine Fall 2019 RTW, Lemaire Fall 2016 RTW, and Burberry Spring 2019 RTW as well as from Pinterest in moodboard above, you may now get a feel as to what the academia aesthetic is all about which does featurea a lot of neutral tones (black, white, camel, beige, cream); plaid prints; blazers and trenches; loafers and leather; etc. See below for some fashion finds (affiliate links) that you can integrate into your own wardrobe. Let me know which are your favourites!

In case you haven't noticed, pistachio green has seemed to take the fashion world by storm this summer and even has potential to transcend into autumn as well. It's an usual, unconventional colour which is exactly why it's so enticing: cute, yet chic; pastel, yet kind of a neutral. It's a fresh new trend that I'm definitely conforming to while I draw inspiration from the many different styles and renditions of this new colour trend. See below for a little pistachio-themed mood board and then of course, links to some great pieces to try out for yourself!

One of my favourite things about a new season is picking out some new pieces to add to the wardrobe. Of course, when a new season comes rolling around, it often accompanies new trends that become quite hard to miss given their saturation in stores and on our Instagram feeds. I'm not one to readily hop on the bandwagon, but I do like to pick and choose what I actually like and feels right for my style. Currently, the prevalent fashion trend seems to revolve around the colour palette of beige, camel, white, gold, and black. It's quite a departure from my usual pink theme, however, if you haven't already seen based on my new Instagram theme, I'm absolutely obsessed with this new colour palette. So, I recently purchased some new pieces that parallel with this new trend from H&M which I absolutely love: a trendy oversized check blazer; white flowy blouse; camel-toned sweater; plus gold-and-pearl earrings - all of which are easily accessible at almost all stores nowadays. So,  below I've curated a selection of pieces that are perfect to add to your spring wardrobe this year. Be sure to let me know in the comments which trend is your favourite!

Just like makeup and fashion, I like variety in my jewellery collection while also maintaining an overall theme and personal style. In this blog post, I've focused more on the gold theme of my collection, although I do like injecting some subtle colours quite often, especially in the form of tiny gemstones. Nonetheless, here are some gold-toned pieces that are among my everyday and most-worn jewellery that go with pretty much everything and anything.

When it comes to jewellery, I generally enjoy wearing more dainty and delicate pieces, yet ones that are still unique and incorporate subtle, yet pretty designs and pendants. This pretty much applies across the board: necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets. Pastel colours and pretty floral designs or even small gemstones are my favourite adornments on jewellery that make it pass the ordinary mark and allow for a more unique, yet chic and sophisticated look. Most jewellery I purchase from are Forever 21 and H&M, but be sure to check below for similars, including silver pieces!

autumn fall fashion forever 21 h&m blogger fashion style beauty asos zara haul

One of the reasons why autumn is my favourite season is because of the fashion. I feel that autumn style is often reliable in the sense that many of the styles and trends that are often associated with autumn actually do stay consistent throughout the years such as the typical neutral scarves, boots, and jackets that stand the test of time as classics. But, I also love and embrace the ever-changing fads that are introduced each year that make autumn fashion even more exciting.

A lot of trends have emerged this year that adopt a subtle novel element while still staying somewhat neutral. Animal print is like the new neutral, especially for shoes and coats. Plus, floral patterns have become a staple for this season, but in more autumnal hues especially on dresses. Also, check and plaid print is huge this year, particularly in the form of blazers and even skirt-suits! For the thicker coats and jackets, teddybear coats have become quite prominent which give a cute edge for staying warm in the cooler weather. While the shades for this season are quite neutral such as the usual tan and white tones, pops of red and deep jewel tones provide a unique contrast that break up the more monotone shades. So, having these trends in mind, I've compiled a collection of recommendations* below that I hope will benefit you and provide you with inspiration!

What are your favourite trends for this season?

shoes chanel zara dupe spring summer fashion blogger fblogger

You can't miss it. Almost any fashion blogger has adorned the classic Chanel slingback shoes. I'll admit, it took me awhile to actually like them. They are a unique pair as they are different and bold, but in a simple and chic way. At first, they do appear a bit matronly, but when paired with a trendy outfit, you soon appreciate their versatility. So, with my eyes on those shoes, yet with my eyes averted from the Chanel price tag, I knew Zara would carry a dupe which they often do so well. Soon enough, I welcomed these beautiful Chanel dupes. These are not slingbacks (which I never truly liked), but the low block heel, cream faux leather, and black toe-cap is almost a spitting image - and with its price tag, it's even better than its counterpart.

These shoes are the type that can easily be worn throughout the seasons, throughout any occasion. Mostly these shoes are best worn with a casually chic outfit that makes these shoes appear more youthful rather than matronly. Due to their light colour, they're especially perfect for the spring and summer, paired with a breezy top and boyfriend jeans. These are definitely one of my most favourite shoes I own! green emerald zara bag handbag purse holiday christmas accessories

When it comes to bags, I always incline towards crossbody bags rather than large handbags unless I need to. Having said that, I also love unique bags whether it be an uncoventional colour, print, or shape. Recently, I've grown a strong liking towards deep emerald greens (which is unfortantely underrated!) and that obsession applies on anything: makeup, clothes, jewellery, etc. So, when I spotted this deep green (or "bottle green" as Zara describes it) crossbody bag, I had to have it.

I love that this has a faux croc pattern as it adds additional detail and texture to the surface of the bag; also, the colour pairing of the deep green with gold hardware gives off a regal and luxiourious apperance.  I feel that jewel tones are perfectly appropriate for the autumn and winter seasons, espeically during the holidays (pair this bag with red lipstick and you've got a classy, yet festive look!). This bag is still available on the Zara website (for almost 50% off of what I got it for!). I've also included some other similar bags below that are also within the same colour family.

Let me know what colour you're currently craving for this season!

holiday christmas gift guide beauty skincare kate spade makeup dior fresh ted baker perfume

I've never done a holiday gift guide before, albeit I love reading and watching them. This season I've acquired quite a quantity of items that I've personally enjoyed and feel they make a beautiful gift for this holiday season. All of these items are within a "reasonable" price range (only one is >$100) where each is beautiful enough to stand alone as one main gift! I hope this gift guide provides you with ideas and inspiration for your gift shopping!

Fresh Facial on the Fly Skincare Set* Beauty sets are always a great option for a gift as the receiver gets to try multiple products by a brand they may be interested in. Fresh is an excellent skincare brand and their holiday gift sets this year offer amazing products in each of their sets, one of them being this one that holds a cleanser, face cream, and face mask.

Shiseido Ever Bloom Eau de Parfum* While perfumes can be tricky to accommodate the receiver's preferences, it can also be a beautiful luxirious gift if you have an idea of what they may like. The perfume claims to be a "musky floral white floral fragrance" which indeed describes its actual scent - it's not overly sweet, floral, or musky, but balances all three beautifully which makes it a safe bet if you're unsure about the person's preferences.

Dior Eyeshadow Palette* For the makeup lover: gifting a luxurious eyeshadow palette or any other makeup product is a very simple, yet very effective gift. From the quality of Dior's shadows to its packaging, this would be a beautiful and thoughtful present!

Kate Spade Boudoir Chic Paris Compact* Kate Spade is one my favourite brands to shop from, for the holidays, birthdays, etc. I've featured 3 Kate Spade products in this guide because the brand really does offer a vast range of products and beautiful gift packaging all of which, despite its brand name, doesn't have to hurt your wallet. This compact mirror, for example, is very simple, yet its appearance, packaging, and (of course) its "Kate Spade" brand name that is embossed on the bottom makes for a beautiful high-end gift that is surprisingly affordable!

Ted Baker Chelsea Grey Cosmetic Bag* A pretty and luxurious makeup bag is always a great option for the makeup lover, especially since one can never have enough makeup bags! Ted Baker is amazing when it comes to makeup bags as their designs are one-of-a-kind, coupled with amazing quality. (Also, this one is currently on sale!)

Kate Spade Infinity & Beyond Studs* Same goes for their jewellery - not expensive, but very pretty that'll make any receiver a happy one. They offer a wide range of simple to statement jewellery, so you'll probably find a piece for just about anyone!

Kate Spade Cameron Street Stacy Wallet* This is one of the "main gifts" for the special someone. A wallet is a great idea as it's something you use on the daily, so it's also a very practical gift. Kate Spade is one of my favourite brands for leather goods in terms of bags and wallets as their appearance and quality is top notch. They carry large wallets, mid-sizes, and even small card holder, so their wallets vary on the price spectrum.

I hope this gift was helpful for you while you're holiday shopping!

Red shoes slippers slides sliders H&M summer footwear shoes
I often find some difficulty with summer footwear. Often, summer shoes are quite casual that are just not compatible with my not-so-casual wardrobe. Having said that, it's also important for me to have comfortable and practical shoes sometimes so, I'm always on the hunt each summer to find the perfect balance between practical and chic. Enter these H&M red sandals:

Red shoes slippers slides sliders H&M summer footwear shoes
Red is definitely a statement colour which I adore and love the pop of colour it gives to a summer outfit. These shoes are easy slide-ons that are so comfortable to wear and I haven't experienced any problems with "breaking them in". Its faux-seude material, low heel, and bow-tie straps, however, amp up the simple shoe into something far more interesting and pretty. This is why these have become a staple in my summer wardrobe!

These are really versatile as you can easily dress them up or down. I love styling these with dresses, but they look just as nice with jeans that are rolled up at the bottom. They just create an overall cute statement effect without being too dramatic!
