Summer 2016 Colour Palette

Every year, every season, trends come and go. They are inconsistent, each being completely unique and diverse compared to the previous. An element that always applies, however, is colour. No matter what the particular trend is, whether it be beauty or fashion, shoes or a dress, lipstick or eyeshadow... colour is always a huge part of that trend, which makes more than half of what that trend is all about. Having said that, the colours that are on trend are forever trending, which is not difficult to take notice of: just take a peek at your favourite clothing store or browse through the "New Arrivals" on the Sephora site. Sometimes, however, as much as it can be obvious, we can often pass through these trends without fully comprehending what we are exactly conforming to. So, I thought that it would be a nice idea to compile a seasonly roundup of the colour palette that is being incorporated within the current beauty and fashion trends.

Greige with more beige: The brown lip is obviously all the rage right now, but it does have many variations. I feel that what's especially the most prevalent, is the stone-toned brown which adds an extra grunge-vibe to the look. These deeper brown hues definitely have redefined the term "nude-lip" by categorizing it into any brown shade rather than just a natural colour.

Mauve: This purple-toned colour is another popular lip shade, exemplified by the popular Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in "Lolita" and Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits in "Koko K" and "Posie K", just to name a few. It's a more colourful rendition of the nude look, introducing a colour that was hardly ever used in the makeup world.

Royal Blue: An unconventional colour for makeup and now it's being used in the most unconventional places: eyelashes and lips! In the form of coloured mascara and the recent emerging innovative lips, blue has definitely become a prominent colour this summer.

Peach: Oh, how I love this trend! On the eyes, cheeks, and lips, this orange hue is what modern grunge with a touch of femininity and summer glow is all about. The contributions of Too Faced's "Sweet Peach" eyeshadow palette, Anastasia Beverly Hills' "Modern Renaissance" eyeshadow palette, Too Faced's Sweetheart Blush in "Sparking Bellini" - just to name a few - prove that this colour family is distinctively a trend for this summer.

Champagne: The epitome of pretty, this colour is incorporated in this summer's beauty trends, particularly in the form of highlighter (Becca's "Champagne Pop" and "Moonstone", Urban Decay's "Sin"...) as well as eyeshadow.

Denim Blue: Basically, denim. This trend is a massive one this season, expressed in every possible way: dresses, shirts, jeans, and the most popular: skirts and bardot tops... . From pure denim to the lighter chambray version, this colour and fabric is everywhere this season.

Rose Gold: Eyes, nails, jewellery, even sunglasses, this colour is most people's current metal of choice, in line with raging metallic trend. It's definitely a unique colour and very distinctive to the timeless silver and gold, offering a fresher and more youthful look, perfect for summer especially.

Red: This colour is definitely a trend currently, but manifested in a very subtle way, often being used in conjunction with the current trend of pins, embroidery, and prints. Most clothing pieces are now adorned with embellishments and subtle designs, and most often, they are of bright red threads and pins.

Pale Pink: Definitely my favourite colour of all time (just take a look at my blog design... can you tell?). This colour is often incorporated with the other fashion trends of slip dresses and bomber jackets, creating an ultra feminine and dainty look, which is perfect for the light clothing of summer.

These are the colours that I feel are dominating the beauty and fashion trends of summer this year. What other colours are you noticing? What's your favourite?
