Face Base-ics.

Gotta love a good play-on-words title! Anyway, today I'm sharing with you my everyday face base routine. I would say that I'm the type of person that loves going for different makeup looks on a daily basis, depending on my outfit, the weather, or even my mood. When it comes to the base, however, this is an aspect that pretty much remains a solid regime for me and doesn't really ever change. Having said that, the base can be the most important step in your makeup routine, but can be at the same time quite challenging to find what works best for you. So, this is my everyday face base routine that I've finally built up and am most comfortable with, involving the products that I absolutely adore and hardly ever exclude.

The Body Shop Aloe Soothing Day Cream*. I've mentioned this moisturizer countless amount of times already, but that's because it truly is a holy-grail product for me. Applying a moisturizer before any face makeup is vital for me; it protects and nourishes the skin, while also making the makeup apply a lot smoother.

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Redness Correcting Primer. I'm not big on colour correcting and I'm equally not too eager for primers, perhaps because I don't feel that I need it. However, when I received this Sephora sample, I found that I got a lot of use out of it for diminishing my slight redness, particularly around the nose and on the cheeks. So, ever since, I find that including a primer to my base routine has definitely allowed a more successful pursuit for a corrected and "flawless" base. Note that there is a plethora of different primers for different purposes, including the range of this Make Up For Ever primer collection, so be sure to check out their other ones if you have any other complexion concerns.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, Concealer, and Powder. It was pure coincidence that my picks for my favourite foundation, concealer, and powder are all from the same range. I guess that makes it more convenient as well! Anyway, the next step is foundation which usually involves the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation, for me. I've already done a review on this which you can check out here, but in a nutshell, this is my holy-grail foundation that has medium-full coverage and lasts very well. Foundation is the product in my base routine that sometimes varies as I like to change up my foundation depending on the look I'm going for, however, the typical day always calls for this one. Next, is the Fit Me Concealer which is a drugstore cult favourite of many; creamy, great coverage, and long lasting. I don't look for any replacement and have recently bought my second tube. Finally, is powder. Powder is optional depending on your skin type and needs, however, I like to lightly dust it all over the face, especially atop my concealer to set it. Even though this powder is matte (there is a non-matte version too), it produces a flawless and airbrushed, yet light finish.

So, for me, the combination of these products creates my "perfect" face base that I consistently apply whenever I wear makeup. These products have stood the test of time for me, and are the ones that I see no need to replace or stop using. I would love to read what your base essentials are, so comment below and share your favourites!

  4. high-five! I also think base is the hardest routine to change, especially once we get comfortable with certain routine that gives as the best result. I really want to try the MUFE primer in mattifying, heard great things about them ;)
