Dior Makeup: Worth the Price?

dior makeup eyeshadow luxury review
Luxury makeup is a category of its own; some people love it and some don't find any interest in it. I guess for me personally, I belong to the latter category. I do enjoy high-end makeup, but luxury or "designer" makeup is not something that I usually spend my money on; in other words, I look at these brands mostly for their fashion, not the makeup. Regardless of your view on luxury makeup, receiving them for free definitely doesn't hurt! So, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to share my opinions on the quality of this brand, especially by taking its price into consideration.

First off, these two eyeshadow palettes are part of their limited edition Autumn 2016 Skyline Collection, which is now past its life span, therefore it is not sold anymore. This is why I won't get into detail regarding the specific product or shades; rather I will focus on the quality of the eyeshadows which I believe can be applied to the brand's products in general.

I feel that some luxury brands strive for less pigmented products on purpose, which I personally do not really understand as I prefer quality colour payoff regardless of the price point of the product, but that's just my personal preference. I'll tell you right away: these are not impressively pigmented as you can see from the swatches, as the shades in the pan do not translate as intensely as you would expect. It deposits a nice wash of colour and is relatively long lasting, so the only gripe I have with them is, as I just mentioned, its pigmentation.

Of course, the packaging is worth discussing as this is probably the most defining feature of any luxury brand. It comes with a very luxurious presentation with its navy velvet slip case, its shiny hard compact with the brand's name embossed on the lid, its sturdy snap closure, and of course the stunning eyeshadows with their pressed design (which also wears off very quickly and easily!). It also comes with two different mini brushes placed on either sides of the palette, although I have not used them.

All in all, I am very grateful for receiving these palettes and I truly do enjoy these palettes when I want to go for a single lid look. However, if you are looking for shadows with high quality that justifies their high price point, then these won't be for you.

  1. These look so pretty but it's such a shame about the pigmentation. I mean these are pretty pricey so I at least expect excellent pigmentation! These'll be a pass for me. Thanks for sharing :)

  2. My problem with designer high-end palette exactly, I don't know if Dior is any better than YSL quad, which is a literal shimmer powder with poor pigmentation, but it's soo disappointing. The dark shade is pretty tho :(

    1. Yes, it definitely is a shame! The shades are very pretty, so I do still use them, but not when I want an intense colour payoff, unfortunately.
