My Everyday, Subtle Festive Makeup Routine.

It's November, Christmas is approaching which begs for all things festive, including makeup. I always feel that the time leading up to a holiday or event is the most exciting and so changing up my makeup routine come November is always a fun time each year to get into the Christmas mood. It's not Christmas just yet however, (we are only in November after all), so I don't go all out with the classic red lip + silver or gold eyeshadow combo, but I do like to inject some festivity in a subtle and fun way.

When it comes to giving that subtle nod to the holiday, for me that's all about playing with jewel tones such as deep blues, red, greens, etc. As intimidating as that sounds, pairing coloured eyeshadow with nude tones in your blush and lips plays down the look in a more effortless way and less costume-like. For eyeshadow, I'm currently loving sporting a deep emerald green eye such as from last year's Too Faced Holiday Collection Palette (see below for this year's which is very similar). The deeper the tone, the safer it is as it looks more chic and sophisticated and less stark and bold. A swipe of the eyeshadow is enough - put barely anything in the crease and no liner (just lots of mascara!). Again, the more effortlessly you apply the shadow, the more effortless it will look (in a good way!).

The Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in "Paaarty" is a nude dusky rose shade that pretty much compliments any makeup look. To top it all off, the Tarte Tarteist Matte Lip Paint in "Birthday Suit" is the perfect nude as it is a bit cool-toned which doesn't compete with the eyeshadow. The nude tones are quite atypical to festive makeup, which is what makes it so interesting and different.

To make the look even more of a subtle association to Christmas makeup, opting for a cream dewy highlighter is different from the typical blinding highlights that often accompany festive, glammed-up looks. A dewy-looking base makes it more fresh and again: effortless.

    1. The autumn/winter time always makes me embrace colour, especially jewel tones! I feel that green is especially flattering on brown eyes which is why I've been sporting this shade the most lately!

    1. Yes, they are! Especially for a liquid lipstick formulation, they are quite comfortable and last really well on the lips!
