Fashion Trends for Spring/Summer 2017.

spring summer 2017 fashion trends gingham ruffle mom jeans bella freud

This season has introduced an eclectic aesthetic that doesn't allow itself to be reduced to a simple label. The trends, I believe, are quite diverse, representing an intersection between nostalgic '60s & '90s style with modernity. Overall, it's all about adding little details that make an impactful difference, creating a chic, yet cool vibe. Here I present a collection of some of the most prominent (and my favourite) trends of S/S17.

Ruffles. I've seen this trend emerge from last fall/winter and I absolutely love it for the warmer months as well. Ruffles create a touch of femininity and even borderline child-like attire. It can, however, also aid in creating a sophisticated look depending on the type of shirt, colour, and the extent of the ruffles. Overall, it's a very chic and ethereal look that is right up my alley.

Slogan Tees. I've always loved the concept of accent details - a subtle symbol or inscription that contrasts against a colour-blocked background. Bella Freud is definitely among the designers that sparked this trend, but of course many other equally pretty, but affordable alternatives are available. Slogan tees just lend that classic cool Americana vibe, but can still be smartened up to a more Parisian aesthetic depending on the style of shirt such as the length of the sleeves and of course, what the slogan actually says!

Yellow. Yellow is everywhere at the moment which I'm really happy about since it's almost always been a neglected colour. There are a variety of tones, but pastels and mustards are great to go for if you're intimidated by ultra-bright yellows.

Flute Sleeves. The previous yellow piece shown on the moodboard also contains flute sleeves which is another prominent trend. The detail adds a feminine touch to a simple blouse by injecting a simple, yet impactful element. There are also more practical alternatives such those versions that flare out at the elbows rather than at the wrists, which still offer the same dainty effect.

Off-Shoulder.  This is a recurring trend from last spring/summer. It's a pretty one that is specifically designed to accentuate the neck and décolletage. It also lets you get away with wearing long sleeves in the warm weather as it creates an interesting paradox, but one that works.

Embroidery.  Again, a recurring trend from last spring/summer as well as fall/winter. It goes along with the other trends of incorporating a subtle touch that transforms the entire piece into something with a bit more interest and detail.

Gingham. I absolutely adore this trend! Who knew that checkered patterns could be chic? Small print, black & white gingham is everywhere - for tops AND bottoms! It's a great twist to a plain all black or all white piece, but still without being a garish or over-the-top pattern.

Mom Jeans.  Again, who would have though that mom jeans would return? It's probably owing to the fact that modernity has transformed the trend into a much more flattering and cooler fit and style. Pairing them with a crop top balances the baggy style perfectly.

Classic Belts. This is again parallel with the whole "subtle, yet impactful" trend. Thanks to Gucci, the androgynous classic & cool black leather belts with front-buckle has been all the rage - and I am loving it!

Mules. These are very '60s-esque with the cutesy and girly aesthetic. Pastel-coloured mules incline more towards that look, but opting for various textures such as leather along with deeper tones, presents a more mature look.

So, here was a mammoth of a post on only a few current trends for this spring/summer! I'm really looking forward to injecting many of these trends into my wardrobe! What are your favourites?
