When it comes to eyeshadow, autumn is often associated with berry red tones or rustic orange shades, exemplified by the Anastasia Beverly Hills "Modern Renaissance" eyeshadow palette: the epitomy of autumn eyeshadow shades. However, I personally love to substitute those deep red and orange shades with its more colourful counterparts: jewel tones. That includes emeralds, golds, navies, and of course rubies - either in matte or shimmer/metallic form.
It can feel intimidating, but I find that the deep colourful shades can be quite wearable compared to brighter shades as the deep tones are more subtle and can be worn as a slightly amped up neutral. Plus, simply swiping jewel-toned eyeshadow on the lids rather than opting for a full "Insta-glam" look, makes the look appear even more effortless and easy to wear. I love the rich jewel toned eyeshadows from last year's Too Faced holiday palette which isn't available now, but look below for close similars!
Since jewel tones are not neutral, there's risk of competition when it comes to blush and lipsticks shades. That's why it's usually safe to stick to those nude tones. For blush, I like to use the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in "Paaarty" which is a nude with a hint of pink, giving a subtle flush to the cheeks. For lips, I like to either go for the Too Faced "Chihuahua" Melted Chocolate for a glossy brown-y finish or the Tarte "Birthday Suit" Lip Paint for a more cool-toned matte look.
What do you think about jewel-toned eyeshadow? What is your favourite eyeshadow style for autumn?

Isn’t it? I try to use it sparingly, however, since it’s limited edition!
DeleteThis palette looks super pretty, I love how it has neutrals and some colors thrown in!

Yes! It’s such a well rounded palette! It’s a shame that it’s limited edition though.
