As much as I love playing with makeup and injecting some colour onto my skin, sometimes (albeit quite rarely) I also enjoy the natural and neutral tones of which I believe the majority of people do too. It's a universally flattering tonal family and can be easily tweaked to fit your specific skin tone and preferences. With skin, eyes, cheeks, and lips, the nude monochromatic look is a classic and timeless one that gives off a sophisticated, chic, and effortless look.
Skin. Firstly, natural starts with the base, hence 'foundation'. Natural skin is often characterized by light/medium coverage with a satin finish - basically, your skin but better. I find that cushion foundations are great at achieving this look such as my favourite Laneige BB Cushion Hydra Radiance Foundation (plus, it has SPF 50!). It imparts a beautiful natural, yet effective skin coverage and finish without actually appearing like makeup on the skin. (Full review here.)
Eyes. Neutral palettes are the most prevalent on the market and because of that, it can be quite redundant for the consumer. I enjoy a smaller and condensed neutral palette that is more accessible and effortless to use. I use my Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette which houses 9 versatile and diverse natural shades (mattes, shimmers, cools, warms, etc.) in a concise and compact way. You can go for a full-on natural look or simply swipe on a shade onto the lid or in the crease and go. The overall effect is simple, yet pretty and understated. (Full review here.)
Cheeks. For cheeks, opting for just a bronzer or going for a nude toned blush is a great way to keep up with the all-over nude makeup look. However, too much of a one-dimensional tone on the face can look flat. So, a nude blush with a hint of warm pink can add life back into your face. I like to use the Tarte "Paaarty" Blush or Too Faced's "Baby Love" Blush as they subtly add a flush onto the cheeks.
Lips. As much as I'm predominately a bold lipstick wearer, a nude lip can be practical and chic as well. Cool tones or warm tones are a matter of preference and compatibility, but my personal favourite is the Glossier Generation G Matte Liptick in "Cake". It's sheer so you can manipulate it into an even more natural finish or layer on for a more opaque and polished nude lip look.
