How to Transition from Winter to Spring Makeup.

It's now February which represents the month right between the dead of winter in January and the first month of spring in March. It's around this time that I like to gradually integrate some spring into my step - or in this case, makeup! For me, winter to spring transitional makeup means a subtle incorporation of colour and a slight nod to more brighter and lighter colours. In other words, not too much of dark tones, but also not a full-fledged vibrant spring look; rather, a wash of colour. Here are my makeup products that I am now implementing into my routine for a transitional winter-to-spring makeup look:

Eyes. To go for subtle colour on the lids, I prefer a wash of pigment. Any subtle shadow will provide the effect - a sophisticated swipe of colour such as a grape purple or light pink makes for a pretty understated eye look that foreshadows (pun not intended!) the upcoming spring season. Coloured eyeliners are also a great way for achieving a hint of colour such as a royal blue or even a shimmery neutral such as silver which is a great option as the colour is very brightening. Apply on the lower lash line, waterline, or as a wing: great ways to incorporate a colourful liner.

Blush. Steering away from the plum and berry blush shades, opting for a rosy pink is perfect as it is not quite a bright pink, but still belongs to the fresh colour family.

Lips. Again, a mid-tone pinky or rosy shade diverges away from the wintry deep berry tones. Also, colours like medium purples or magentas that include a hint of pink are great transitional colours that don't quite meet the electric spring/summer shades.

I love transitioning between seasons as it makes me excited for the new upcoming season. What ways are you preparing or revising your making routine for the spring season?

  4. Love these tips! I've always been so scared to use colored eyeliners but think I'll take the dive. The royal blue sounds like a great start.
