I've been actively applying makeup on myself for almost 10 years. Throughout that time, anyone eventually realizes their own makeup style, preferences, and tricks that work for them, whether it be tips you've learned from YouTube and Instagram, or tricks you've discovered on your own. I personally have a few tips & tricks that I like to use that allows me in achieving the makeup style that I prefer. Hopefully some of these will inspire you to try out or come up with new ones!

Now, I've already mentioned countless times on the blog of my love for brow gel, especially the Rimmel Brow This Way. However, in terms of a trick I like to use, I've recently discovered that applying some brow gel before brow pencil and then applying more brow gel afterwards helps me in attaining the brow shape I want. Since my brow hairs are naturally long and quite stubborn, simply brushing my brows won't allow me to see a defined shape for applying the brow pencil. Thus, applying brow gel and locking my brows in place at the beginning gives me a better perspective for drawing the shape of my brows!
Also, another huge trick that makes a large impact is applying concealer around the edges of the brows to give it a sharp and crisp border, giving the brows a more precise and clean look!

Eyelashes. In terms of eyelashes, this is  a tricked I discovered very early in my makeup 'journey' as my stubbornly straight, yet very long lashes were hard to avoid. (I envy those with naturally curly lashes who can simply swipe mascara on!) For me, what works is that I curl my lashes tightly with my lash curler for almost 20 seconds. Then I repeat. Then, I finally apply mascara, and when it dries, I curl my lashes again. Be cautious, however, as curling a lot, especically over top mascara can pull your lashes, but this technique works wonders for me! (Plus, waterproof mascara really helps holding a curl too!)

Eyeliner. Most people like to use eyeliner to manipulate their eye shape in appearing cat-like via a wing. However, my makeup preference is always to look as much as I can as a doll aka 60s makeup aka make my eyes appear as large and round as possible. So, drawing from 60s makeup looks, instead of creating an upwards wing, I actually carry my "wing" downwards, thereby giving a rounder effect to the eyes! Sounds controversial, I know, but it won't hurt to try it! And FYI: my favourite eyeliner of all-time is the Sephora Wink-It Felt Tip!

Lips. I know most people go for the overlining lip trend, but in terms of lips (and pretty much everything else), I absolutely adore the Korean-style makeup of the "popsicle" lip effect where you have a light blur of colour around the edges of the lips with a more saturated colour in the centre of the lips. It gives an overall smaller, yet poutier lip look. I love creating this effect with the Glossier Generation G Matte Lipsticks as they are sheer so it is easier to create the blurred effect and layer shades over top each other. I apply the shade "Crush" (raspberry red-pink) lightly on my lips, then use the shade "Jam" (deep plum) just on the centre and blend slightly outwards. It imparts such a pretty and soft look!
