Fashion Forecast: A/W 2016

Yes, I know, I know! We are still in summer and most of you probably don't want to be thinking about autumn and winter. The only thing I personally enjoy about summer is that there's no school; other than that, I'm pretty excited for the colder seasons, especially in terms of the fashion; in fact, autumn and winter are actually my favourite seasons! We're all aware that stores and companies always rush the upcoming seasons on us, so it's not easy to avoid how shops are now introducing their A/W collection. Every season has its own trends and a lot of them are hinted during the latter parts of the preceding summer season, thanks to the runway fashion and couture that is always ahead of its time. It's good though, to take advantage of the hints so you can easily prepare constructing your autumn/winter wardrobe to be perfectly in sync with the upcoming trends! Last fall was very reminiscent of 60s/70s fashion, with retro corduroy skirts, mustard hues, and pinafore dresses; this year aligns itself more with high-fashion and chic runway trends. So, here I highlight the fashion trends that are now emerging to be later fully revealed in A/W 2016.

(in order of left to right:)

1. The Ruffle Top. Femininity is definitely imported into this autumn/winter. Ruffles and even tulle skirts have become quite prevalent, and I am loving it. It kind of resembles a young girl/babydoll vibe which can be quite refreshing to bring into the adult fashion world. Much of the ruffle style has been showcased by the Fall 2016 couture runway by designers such as Givenchy and Christian Dior especially on shirts, tops, and sleeves.

2. Victorian. The Victorian style, meaning a high-neck with a tie, and long sleeves that cinch in at the wrist, is also another trend for the upcoming seasons. I believe this trend is one of the most popular ones, indicated by designers such as Valentino, Givenchy, and Christian Dior.

3. Embroidery. We've seen a lot of this trend during this spring/summer, and I'm happy to see that it's being translated into the colder seasons as well. Embroidery on just about anything such as jeans, coats, tops, shirts, dresses... it adds a unique flavour that I feel the fashion world was lacking for a while.

4. The Printed Dress. I love wearing long-sleeved warm dresses during the colder months; there's something so chic about it. Again, prints were big during this spring and summer, but with the injection of more autumnal colours, the printed dress stands tall among this year's A/W fashion.

5. The Statement Coat. The oversized coat has a very chic and androgynous flair, that carries an air of mystery with it. Hinted by Chanel couture this year, statement coats with unfitted sleeves and shape will definitely be the coat of the year On a sidetone, isn't this coat simply amazing?! My mouth literally dropped when I saw this Zara coat!

6. Jewel Tones. Nothing extremely groundbreaking, although still quite fresh from the typical berry tones. As seen on the runway by designers such as Elie Saab and Valentino, emerald and navy hues create a very chic and sophisticated vibe, playing nicely with the deep colours that usually come with autumn and winter.

7. Ballerina Vibes. This has got to be my most favourite trend ever!! An innovative take on the classic "ballerina flats", this shoe has gone quite literal by its replication of the real ballet shoe. Again, another injection of femininity and babydoll-like features, this trend is simply beautiful!

8. Chanel-esque Footwear. This famous Chanel beige/black mid-heel cap-toe shoes have been around for a while, but has now become revived for this season. I'm not sure how I feel about it; it looks quite odd, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! Many shops such as Zara are doing a close replication to the design, so you thankfully don't need to splash out if you want to get on this trend. Also, in general, the mid-heel is becoming very popular, regardless of the design.

9. The Pointed Ankle-High Booties. Another favourite of mine! Booties are definitely a classic for A/W, but the pointed toe and above-ankle height creates such a sophisticated and chic look! Paired with cigarette trousers/jeans, skirts, dresses... it's absolutely stunning!

So, these are a few of the prominent A/W 2016 trends that I am witnessing right now. By referring to couture and runway fashion, as well as checking out shops such as Zara and H&M which are very, very fashion-forward shops, it's quite easy to attain an impression of what's going to be big in fashion for this A/W!

Which trend is your favourite? Are you as excited about this A/W as I am?
