Creating an Eye Look Without Using Eyeshadow.

Usually, the first thing that comes to mind when you think of eye makeup is eyeshadows and palettes. However, you don't have to always be constricted to eyeshadows as there are many other creative ways to create a pretty makeup look such as with the use of eyeliners, coloured pencils, shadow sticks, glitters, mascara, etc. that give your eye makeup a more innovative and sophisticated look.
Eyeliners.
Eyeliners and shadow sticks that are more than just the typical black and brown shades allow for a fresh and innovative look to your eye makeup. Coloured liners like blues, purples, golds, bronzes, etc.  such as the Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips impart a pop of colour that you can apply as a liner or even smudge all over the lid and blend throughout the crease. In fact, liners and pencils often last longer and adhere to the eyes even better than powder shadows.

Of course, you can also go through the classic route by simply wearing or adding a winged liner to your eye look. Often, I find that a wing liner suffices for a complete eye look as it already adds impact to your makeup, yet in a classic and chic way. My favourite liner is the Sephora Wink-It Felt Liner which also comes in many other colourful shades that you can use, again, instead of eyeshadow for a more colourful look!
Shadow Sticks.
The NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils are also another great option as they are larger and can be used as a shadow stick (they come in tons of shades!) or as a thin liner if you use a detailer brush to apply the pencil onto the eyes. You can use them all over the lids, plus blend them into the crease the forms a surprisingly cohesive look. Overall, these products create a beautifully subtle, yet impactful eye look that is different from the typical shadow looks.

Glitters.
Glitters are my favourite way to create an eye look without actually utilizing any eyeshadows. I love how glitters can be extremely versatile: swipe thickly for an opaque metallic lid or apply lightly for a subtle scattered glitter effect. You can then also blend the glitter into the crease with a small dense buffing eyeshadow brush that adds depth and dimension to the look. The Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows come in a large variety of shades, so you can really have fun with them. (Full review here.)

Mascara.
Of course, using mascara really pulls together an eye look. I even sometimes apply just mascara, but loads of it. It produces an overall dramatic effect that really exudes a look of its own. Mascara really is your eyes' best friend! My favourite is, of course, is my all-time favourite L'OrĂ©al Lash Paradise Mascara that allows me to wear a simple to ultra-dramatic look, depending on how much I apply it. (Full review here.)

  1. Great post! I think some people do stick to shadows and they forget there is so much more product that you can use for your eyes besides eye shadow.
